‘Sound of Freedom’ Distributor Angel Studios Unveils WWII Resistance Feature ‘Truth & Treason,’ Sets Theatrical Release (EXCLUSIVE)

As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the project previously announced as a TV series is now being reimagined by Angel Studios into a full-length feature film, complete with a theatrical premiere! Plus, they’ve given it a new title that has me even more intrigued.

The WWII drama titled “Truth & Conviction,” which Angel revealed last year as a four-part limited series, will now be known as “Truth & Treason.” This film is scheduled to release in cinemas on October 17, 2025. This update was shared today during the CinemaCon presentation by the distributor of “Sound of Freedom.

Inspired by real events, “Truth & Treason” narrates the tale of Helmuth Hüebener, a 16-year-old youth who, alongside friends Karl and Rudi, established a resistance group following the arrest of their Jewish acquaintances by Nazis. Their courageous deeds eventually led them to stand trial in Nazi Germany.

As a cinephile, I recently had the pleasure of watching “Untitled Matt Whitaker Project,” a captivating film that boasts an impressive ensemble cast consisting of Rupert Evans, Ewan Horrocks, Ferdinand McKay, Daf Thomas, and Sean Mahon. The dynamic duo of Whitaker and Ethan Vincent are responsible for the intriguing script and skillful direction respectively. This movie is a must-watch for those who appreciate compelling storytelling and exceptional acting performances.

The movie “Truth & Treason” was executive-produced by Russ Kendall, John Foss, and Jon Erwin, while Kaleidoscope Pictures handled its production.

Foss expressed that the process of making ‘Truth & Treason’ has been a deeply significant part of his professional journey. He’s worked on films across the globe, but the tale of Helmuth – which he’s carried with him for almost twenty years – has left an indelible mark. It serves as a poignant reminder that even in the most challenging periods, there is always a glimmer of hope emerging from the unlikeliest sources. He feels privileged to finally be able to share this story.

Production on the feature took place in Vilnius, Lithuania last year.

Kendall shared that he developed a strong friendship with Karl-Heinz Schnibbe, the sole remaining member of a teenage Nazi resistance group. Before his death, Karl passed on their story to us – detailing their beliefs and the sacrifice made by Helmuth Hübener at the tender age of 17,” stated Kendall.

In 1941, their stance against deception and oppression serves as more than just a historical fact – it’s a warning for us today. As we witness an increase in authoritarian rule, the bravery to uphold truth becomes increasingly crucial.
