Sorry, But Sega Isn’t Spinning Up Sonic Adventure Series Remasters

there are currently no plans in motion for such a project.

During an interview with Shacknews (through VGC), Iizuka was discussing Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The interviewer expressed their fondness for Sonic Adventure 2, leading to a question about remaking or revisiting the 2001 game. To this, the developer stated, “I deeply appreciate fans of the Sonic Adventure series, but considering the effort required to update that game to modern gaming standards and audience expectations, it would require as much time and energy as developing a new title.

Iizuka hinted that he was considering creating an entirely new game, which might explain why there are no current plans for another title at the moment. However, it’s worth noting that Sonic Generations, released in 2011, did receive a remaster last year as part of Sonic X Shadows Generations. Furthermore, the game became available on the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this month.

Coming up next from Sonic Team is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which was previously discussed. This marks the fourth installment in the racing subseries for Sonic the Hedgehog and includes characters from various crossovers such as Joker from Persona 5 and SpongeBob Squarepants. The release date for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set for September 25, and it will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A version for the rumored Switch 2 console is also being developed for a future release.
