Sophie Okonedo, Katherine Mallen Kupferer, Chloe Coleman Starring in ‘Mouse,’ Next Film From ‘Ghostlight’ Directors (EXCLUSIVE)

The filmmaking team Alex Thompson and Kelly O’Sullivan, renowned for their Sundance hit “Ghostlight,” have completed shooting on their next project titled “Mouse.” This movie revolves around two friends, Minnie (Katherine Mallen Kupferer) and Callie (Chloe Coleman), whose bond is disrupted as they approach the end of their high school years.

The movie was written by O’Sullivan and jointly directed by O’Sullivan and Thompson. It was filmed on location in North Little Rock, Arkansas, which is where O’Sullivan grew up. The cast includes Sophie Okonedo, Katherine Mallen Kupferer, Chloe Coleman, and Tara Mallen. The main cast also features Iman Vellani and David Hyde Pierce. Additionally, the film showcases newcomers Beck Nolan, Addisyn Cain, Audrey Grace Marshall, and Christopher R. Ellis.

Okonedo, a multiple award nominee (Emmy, Oscar, and Tony), has roles in shows like “Slow Horses” and “Hotel Rwanda”. Kupferer gained recognition through performances in “Ghostlight” and “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret.” Coleman shared the screen with others in “My Spy”, while Mallen was part of the cast for “Ghostlight” as well. Vellani took the lead in “Ms. Marvel,” and Hyde Pierce, an Emmy and Tony winner, is most famously associated with his work on “Frasier.

The movie was created by Chelsea Krant, Pierce Cravens, and Thompson, along with Abigail Rose Solomon, Bonnie Comely, Stewart Lane, Steven A. Jones, Ian Keiser, and Alex Wilson. The production companies involved were O’Sullivan and Thompson’s Little Engine, Metropolitan Entertainment, Rosalind Productions, and Runaway Train.

The movie titled “Ghostlight” was purchased by IFC and Sapan Studio following its premiere at Sundance. This film hit screens last summer and has now ranked as the top movie of 2024 on Rotten Tomatoes’ ‘What to Watch’ list. Notably, it has been nominated for several end-of-year awards, including those from the Independent Spirits and Gothams, among others. Interestingly, O’Sullivan and Thompson’s previous film, “Saint Frances,” premiered at SXSW in 2019. It won a Special Jury Prize for “Breakthrough Voice” and the Audience Award for Narrative Feature, and was also nominated for three Gotham Awards, an Independent Spirit Award, and named by the National Board of Review as one of the Top Ten Independent Films of the year.
