Sony To End Support For PlayStation Stars To “Evaluate” And Evolve Loyalty Programme

Many well-known gaming platforms offer reward systems where players can gather points by participating in games and associated tasks. These points can then be exchanged for exclusive rewards such as unique items or valuable digital collectibles. For instance, Sony introduced PlayStation Stars, a loyalty program designed for the PlayStation platform. Here, players earn points through gameplay and various activities, which can later be traded for a wide range of digital goods like games, add-ons, in-game money, PSN account funds, and so on.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) recently shared significant news about the future of their reward program, PlayStation Stars. For now, it appears that this program is temporarily discontinued. It’s important to mention that PlayStation Stars is a relatively recent loyalty initiative compared to Nintendo’s My Rewards and Microsoft’s Rewards programs, which include Xbox rewards.

On May 21st, 2025, details about an update for PlayStation Stars were revealed through PlayStation’s social media platforms. The information was traced back to a blog post on the PlayStation (PS) Blog by Grace Chen, Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty & Licensed Merchandise. In her post, Chen mentioned that since the launch of PlayStation Stars in 2022, they have gained valuable insights by assessing which activities players react most positively to. As a forward-thinking company, they are consistently adapting to player and market trends.

An important update on the PlayStation Stars program:

As a gamer, I’m letting you know that based on our assessment, we’ve chosen to redirect our focus and gradually phase out the existing version of PlayStation Stars. We’re taking the insights we’ve gathered from this program and brainstorming ideas on how to expand upon them in the future.

The PlayStation Stars program is set to conclude on November 2nd, 2026. Until then, members can continue redeeming their points for digital items, provided the points do not expire before this date. Members can still accumulate points, digital items, and level up their status until July 23rd, 2025, at 7:59 am PDT / 10:59 am EDT / 3:59 pm BST / 11:59 pm JST. After this date, no new campaigns, missions, or rewards can be earned or claimed, although existing benefits may still be enjoyed.

The following adjustments are set to take place before the November 2026 deadline: The acceptance of new participants for our current loyalty program will cease starting from May 21st, 2025. Chen clarified that if Stars members choose to terminate their membership by this date, they should be aware that it won’t be possible to re-enroll in this version of the program, and any accumulated Points will be forfeited.

In summary, Chen clarified that after the changes take place, PlayStation Stars members will continue to access their Digital Collectibles. The team is eagerly exploring innovative methods to enhance and transform their loyalty program, offering new and thrilling experiences in the future. They have promised to keep us informed about potential developments, as there’s a chance that the PlayStation Stars program or a similar version could reappear at some point in the future.
