As a longtime cinema enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of visual effects (VFX) and special effects, I am genuinely excited about the recent appointments at Sony Pictures-owned VFX studio Pixomondo. With over 20 years of industry experience, Michelle Martin’s promotion to head of European business development is a testament to her dedication and expertise in the field. Her extensive background in leading TV divisions and transitioning to Milk VFX as chief business development officer will undoubtedly strengthen Pixomondo’s presence in Europe and solidify its relationships with clients.
Pixomondo, the visual effects studio owned by Sony Pictures, has appointed new leaders for business development in Europe and North America.
Michelle Martin and Naomi Foakes have been promoted to head their respective regions – Europe and the U.S., within our global production studio that specializes in pre-production, virtual production, and visual effects. This studio has an impressive footprint with seven studios and three LED volumes spread across the U.S., UK, Germany, and Canada. Notably, they have contributed their skills to popular shows like “The Penguin” and the latest season of “House of the Dragon.
Martin boasts more than two decades worth of industry expertise. Prior to joining our company in 2023, she served as the head of FrameStore’s TV division and later moved on to become Milk VFX’s chief business development officer. In her new role as European Head of Business Development at Pixomondo, Martin will spearhead efforts to bolster our presence in this region and foster stronger relationships with our clients. The appointment of a business development head in Europe signifies an exciting step forward in the company’s strategic plans to expand its regional footprint.
Foakes, a seasoned executive with over fifteen years of experience in VFX and animation, previously held the position of global resources manager at Mr. X. In this role, she managed a variety of projects and coordinated planning across three offices housing around 800 artists. In 2021, she transitioned to Pixomondo, shifting her focus from strategic planning and bidding to now spearheading the business development team. Her promotion is a significant step towards Pixomondo’s expanding aspirations in North America.
The team will collaborate with Joe Finlayson, Head of Business Development at PXO Clara, as well as Alex Webster, Group Head of Business Development.
CEO Jonny Slow expressed his excitement about promoting Michelle and Naomi into key positions, stating that their leadership would play a crucial role in propelling PXO’s expansion and strengthening our standing as an industry pioneer,” (paraphrased version)
