As a long-time fan of FromSoftware‘s intricate and challenging gameplay, I can hardly contain my excitement about the potential acquisition of Kadokawa Corporation by Sony! If this deal goes through, it could pave the way for future FromSoftware titles to grace the PS5 exclusively (or perhaps, in a cruel twist, exclusively on PC).

As a gamer, I’ve heard some exciting news that’s making waves in the gaming world! From what I gather, Sony might be planning to expand its empire by acquiring one of Japan’s heavyweights in publishing and film. Rumor has it, they’re in negotiations to take over Kadokawa Corporation. It seems like an intriguing move that could reshape the landscape of entertainment!

If everything goes well, we might be able to finalize the contract in the coming weeks.

Kadokawa Corporation boasts several affiliated companies under its wing. These include Acquire, known for creating popular titles like Tenchu, Way of the Samurai, and Akiba’s Trip; Gotcha Gotcha Games, famous for the RPG Maker series; and Spike Chunsoft, the brains behind Rain Code, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, and Danganronpa.

Primarily, Kadokawa Corporation holds approximately 69.66% of the shares in FromSoftware, the creative powerhouse known for hits like Elden Ring, the Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. It’s important to mention that Sony is currently the third-largest shareholder with a stake of 14.09%, while Tencent (through one of its subsidiaries) owns 16.25% of the shares. If the takeover proceeds, there might be a possibility that future FromSoftware games will initially be available exclusively on PlayStation 5, and likely, on PC at a later stage.

The influence of these reports is evident on the Japanese stock market, with Kadokawa’s shares skyrocketing up to 23% within a single day (it might have climbed higher if not for the daily cap). Conversely, Sony’s shares saw a modest increase of just 0.63%.

At this moment, both sides have refused to comment.
