In response to fan criticism over Shrek’s redesign for the upcoming Shrek 5 film, Sonic the Hedgehog has offered his two cents with some guidance.
Shrek’s fifth movie installment is coming out after a gap of 16 years, and though the release date is yet to be announced, enthusiasts can catch a sneak peek now as a teaser trailer has been revealed recently.
In this short scene, Shrek is shown conversing with his family and the Magic Mirror, displaying various Shrek iterations similar to TikTok clips. Fans found it amusing, yet there was a notable aspect that caught their interest: the unique animation technique used.
Following the debut of the trailer, fans on various social platforms voiced their disapproval of the updated appearance, which stands out significantly from its previous version, with a few even likening it to Sonic’s controversial design. In response, Sonic himself has offered some constructive feedback.

On TikTok, the video officially begins by showcasing Sonic’s initial design and a caption reading “Advice for any green ogre-like individuals” is displayed over it.
Initially, this design of Sonic received strong criticism from fans upon the unveiling of the movie. Many noted that the distinctive hedgehog character seemed out of place with human-like teeth and a startling level of realism. As a result, it was nicknamed “Ugly Sonic.
Stepping into a fresh scene, I caught a glimpse of Sonic’s revised appearance, sporting a more stylish and contemporary feel. Funny enough, it seems like Shrek might be experiencing a similar predicament, as his original design faced heavy criticism just as the first Sonic did.
