Today at Summer Game Fest Live, Sega announced that the upcoming game Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, part of the Sonic kart-racing series, will feature characters from popular culture along with familiar faces from the Sonic universe. A fresh trailer showcased Hakune Miku and Persona 5’s Joker. Set to release on September 25, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds supports cross-play and hinted at a future collaboration between Minecraft and Sonic Racing.
As an enthusiastic supporter, I’m thrilled about CrossWorlds, a game unveiled last year, boasting a diverse roster of characters hailing from various Sega universes. Besides Hatsune Miku and Joker, we can look forward to playing as beloved figures such as Shadow the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic. This exciting title promises 24 tracks, with a standout dimension-jumping mechanism intended to keep gameplay dynamic across each track. Following the initial round of each race, the leading player gets to pick a portal that transports everyone to a “CrossWorld,” where we all must complete the subsequent lap, adding an extra layer of challenge and excitement!
Alongside releasing a fresh trailer, Sega has hinted at a partnership with Minecraft. This collaboration is expected to transport players to tracks adorned in the block-style design reminiscent of the building game. Few details have been shared about this crossover, but it appears that the Minecraft content will be exclusive to those who own the CrossWorlds season pass or Deluxe Edition.
At a recent presentation, the game’s creator took a playful jab at Mario Kart World, revealing that their upcoming title, CrossWorlds, will enable multiplayer connections among friends, regardless of the console they’re using. CrossWorlds is planned to drop on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and even the rumored Switch 2.
