Sonic Generations Will Still Be Available After Sonic X Shadow Generations Debuts

As a die-hard Sonic fan since the days of the Sega Genesis, I must say, this news about Sonic Generations being delisted leaves me with a bittersweet feeling. On one hand, I’m excited for the upcoming Sonic x Shadow Generations remaster, but on the other, it’s always sad to see a classic game disappear from the digital shelves. However, Sega’s decision to keep the original version alive in bundles is like finding an old-school ring in a modern Sonic level – a pleasant surprise!

Video game manufacturers often take down older games from sale when a remastered or remade version appears. This practice even affects Sega, who intends to withdraw the original Sonic Generations before its release as part of Sonic x Shadow Generations. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the initial version of Sonic Generations will be permanently removed.

Through their official Sonic the Hedgehog account on X, Sega has declared that they will remove Sonic Generations from individual sale on September 9. But don’t worry, to ensure the game remains intact, it will still be offered in collection packs on Stream and Xbox. Players who currently own Sonic Generations can continue to download the game too.

Consequently, you can still obtain Sonic Generations through bundles that include other famous Sonic games on Steam and Xbox. Those who already own the game can continue to access and play it too. Furthermore, let me clarify that modifications on the Steam version of the game remain unaffected!

Classic video game enthusiasts can still grab Sonic Generations for the Xbox 360, a title that works on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X due to backwards compatibility. Currently, Amazon offers new copies of Sonic Generations for Xbox 360 at just $23, making it an affordable choice as the game is becoming increasingly rare.

In Sonic x Shadow Generations, a pair of games are being released: a remastered version of the original game titled “Shadow Generations,” along with a new title that shares the same name. These two games unfold simultaneously. Sega is set to launch Sonic x Shadow Generations on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 25.
