Sonic Fans Demand Dr. Eggman Recast After Voice Actor’s Controversial Comments

Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog have united in a movement to create a popular hashtag, urging for a change in the voice actor portraying Dr. Eggman across his video games and television shows. This is the current state of affairs as follows:

1. The fans are not satisfied with the current voice actor chosen for Dr. Eggman.
2. They believe that a different voice actor would better suit the character.
3. Their campaign aims to persuade the creators to recast the role of Dr. Eggman, hoping it will go viral and catch the attention of decision-makers.

The Sonic The Hedgehog franchise is hard to beat, with its blue-furred protagonist appearing in over 30 video games and multiple TV shows, as well as recent movies from Paramount. Throughout these various installments, the title character has been accompanied by a vibrant group of companions, but one stands out among them all.

I’d be nothing like the hero I am without my antagonists, Bowser and Dr. Eggman, to challenge and push me. But sometimes, it feels like the line between on-screen villainy and real-life has become a bit too blurred, making things a tad uncomfortable.

Fans of Sonic The Hedgehog have requested a change in the voice actor for Dr. Eggman due to some questionable social media activity by the current voice actor, Mike Pollock. This is why the hashtag #RecastEggman has become popular on social media.

Why do Sonic The Hedgehog fans want Dr. Eggman to be recast?

The idea for a reevaluation started after a post on X dated February 12, 2025, where Pollock used the phrase “collateral damage” to describe Palestinian casualties in the ongoing conflict with Israel. This language led to a lot of criticism, and since then, the voice actor of Dr. Eggman has made multiple attempts to explain the meaning behind this term more clearly.

In a subsequent post, Pollock clarified that ‘collateral damage’ is a term often used in military situations to refer to unintentional harm caused to civilians during conflicts. It doesn’t imply any moral judgment about the lives that are lost, but rather acknowledges the unfortunate truth of casualties in war.

Despite repeated efforts to clarify the terminology, Pollock has been embroiled in an online dispute where numerous Sonic The Hedgehog fans have demanded his dismissal and suggested a replacement. The uproar escalated significantly when it seemed that Pollock was promoting the harassment of his critics.

A user named DewEnjoyer, who is part of the X community, asked the voice actor of Dr. Eggman to publicly condemn those among his followers who were sending offensive or profane messages on the platform.

Could you please ask your unusual followers to refrain from using offensive language towards me in private messages,” DewEnjoyer wrote, accompanied by a screenshot of a disrespectful message. “Hi unusual followers, kindly avoid using slurs against Juno in DMs! I suppose they can do it publicly instead,” Pollock replied in a now-deleted response.

The blend of Eggman’s first remarks regarding the Israel-Palestine dispute and the passionate reactions following, sparked the emergence of the #ReimagineEggman hashtag, which became popular on platform X.

As a gamer, I firmly believe that it’s inappropriate for a high-profile voice actor to continue portraying a character in a children’s series if they casually dismiss tens of thousands of lives lost as ‘collateral damage.’ It’s unacceptable to refer to massive civilian casualties this way, and such behavior should cost them their job.

Since the debut of the Sonic X TV series in 2003, Pollock has provided his voice for the character Dr. Eggman, a role he continues to play in recent games like Sonic Frontiers and Sonic X Shadow Generations. Some fans of the franchise have proposed actors such as Brian Drummond (from Death Note) and Fred Tatasciore (Marvel Rivals) as possible alternatives.

Regarding the ongoing public uproar over X that spanned over a week, Sega remains silent on the issue. Rest assured, we’ll keep you posted should the company decide to address the controversy.
