Sonic 3 Will Tease New Character At The End Of The Movie

As a seasoned gamer with decades of Sonic adventures under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia as I await the release of the third Sonic film. Having grown up with these speedy blue hedgehogs, I’ve seen them evolve from simple platformers to blockbuster movies.

Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog have less than a month to go before the third movie hits theaters on December 20th. In this installment, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles join forces to confront the enigmatic Shadow (voiced by Keanu Reeves). Additionally, Sonic 3 brings Ivo Robotnik’s father, Gerald, into the picture, with Jim Carrey taking on a dual role as both characters. However, director Jeff Fowler has hinted that neither Shadow nor Gerald will be the only fresh faces in the film.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fowler revealed that following the trend established by the initial Sonic film, a previously unspecified character will briefly appear during Sonic 3’s end credits. The team found it challenging to decide which character would be suitable for this cameo.

Fowler remarked, “It’s entertaining to observe the online debates among fans about who might appear next and who will be hinted at towards the end of the film. We often find ourselves having similar discussions. On our side of filmmaking, we all have favorites, and we passionately argue for ‘it should be this character or that one.’ Keeping the anticipation alive is enjoyable, and this movie is no exception when it comes to introducing new characters.

It’s clear that the release of the movies doesn’t follow the original timeline, as Sonic CD precedes Sonic 3, where Knuckles was introduced for the first time. Interestingly, Amy Rose, the smitten pink hedgehog, debuted in Sonic CD, but she had already made an appearance a year earlier in Kenji Terada’s Sonic manga. Later, she underwent some changes, including her boots and hammer, for her appearance in Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast in 1998.

Although Sonic 4 hasn’t received an official go-ahead yet, there are numerous Sonic characters available that could sustain the series for many years.
