Just as a new season of Love Island USA began preparations, problematic social media posts from a cast member surfaced. Before the show even aired, Vasana Montgomery from Oregon was removed from the villa after videos of her using a racial slur were discovered. According to Variety, the videos – one showing her using the slur while playing an arcade game and another of her rapping along to a song in her car – were found on her private social media accounts after she was announced as a contestant.
Last season of Love Island USA was marked by controversy, with three contestants facing consequences for racist language. Yulissa Escobar was removed from the show after videos surfaced of her using a racial slur against Black people. Cierra Ortega was also removed for using a slur targeting people of Asian descent. Additionally, Huda Mustafa lost sponsorship deals after laughing at a racial slur directed at another contestant during an Instagram Live stream. Season 8 of Love Island USA will premiere on June 2, without former host Montgomery.
