Someone Finally Asked First Steps’ Director If RDJ’s Doctor Doom Will Appear. As A Fantastic Four Fan, I’m Curious About These Conflicting Rumors

A significant amount of anticipation surrounds the upcoming movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” set to premiere in July. This marks the third time the original comic book family has been brought to life on-screen. Furthermore, it’s the third Marvel Cinematic Universe film scheduled for 2025, and its predecessors haven’t exactly ignited the box office. However, “First Steps” could potentially gain traction due to its role in setting up next year’s “Avengers: Doomsday,” although, according to the director, it won’t be in the way we might expect.

Many fans eagerly anticipate Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback as part of the MCU in “Avengers: Doomsday,” given his character’s historical rivalry with the Fantastic Four as Doctor Doom. Yet, there have been rumors suggesting he might make an appearance in the upcoming Marvel film beforehand. However, the director clarified that this isn’t true.

Despite Rumors, Fantastic Four Director Says Doctor Doom “Not Part Of My Film”

In the movie Fantastic Four: First Steps, the main antagonist is Galactus, the planet devourer. But don’t get me wrong, Doctor Doom will also be in the film. There have even been whispers about a scene after the credits where Doom makes an appearance. However, when Empire questioned director Matt Shakman about Doctor Doom, he responded (via CBM)…

Doom is not a part of my film, and therefore not a part of my purview.

It appears that Shakman’s statement strongly suggests that the rumors about Doctor Doom aren’t accurate. Yet, there could be a scenario where it all aligns in the end.

How Doctor Doom Might Still Appear In Fantastic Four: First Steps

One possibility exists where both squaring the circle and making Matt Shakman’s statement valid can be achieved, without assuming the post-credits scene in question is a fabrication. This is based on the straightforward idea that the post-credits scene might not necessarily belong to Fantastic Four: First Steps, but rather to Avengers: Doomsday.

It’s been revealed that the post-credits scene in “Thunderbolts” wasn’t originally created for that movie, but instead was taken from a deleted scene called “Doomsday.” This is similar to how stingers have been used in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) before. As a result, the scene wasn’t directed by Jake Schreier, who helmed “Thunderbolts,” but rather by Joe and Anthony Russo.

It’s possible that the post-credits scene in Fantastic Four was intended for Doomsday instead, which means it wouldn’t be part of Matt Shakman’s film and he likely didn’t direct it. However, just because Shakman isn’t claiming otherwise doesn’t mean the scene won’t still appear.

To confirm definitively, we’ll need to watch the end credits of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, though many Marvel enthusiasts were likely intending to do so anyway.
