It’s surprising that The Amazing Race Season 37 has already aired on the 2025 TV schedule, featuring its innovative “Fork in the Road” twist and million-dollar prize winners who were somewhat unexpected. As one storyline concludes, another begins, which often sparks intriguing questions from viewers. Recently, someone wondered who Phil Keoghan, the host, would like to see compete on the race. His response did not fail to impress.
Usually, as a new season starts and an existing one winds down, veteran host Phil Keoghan becomes more visible in interviews. As Season 37 drew to a close, TV Insider questioned Phil Keoghan about who he’d like to race on The Amazing Race with. Interestingly, he expressed a strong desire to run it with his father, a relative particularly close to his heart – a choice perhaps predictable, yet I wasn’t prepared for the moving and heartfelt story behind it.
Unfortunately, my father isn’t in great shape at the moment, but it’s only been a recent development. Despite this, I value all the adventures we’ve shared throughout my life, and when I think about the perfect companion, he’s the first person who comes to mind. Lucky for me, I get to spend time with him still.
It’s amazing how Phil manages to find the bright side in all their adventures, even amidst his father’s current health challenges. When asked an unexpected question about hypotheticals, his response was more heartfelt than I could have imagined. Remarkably, he went on to elaborate on why his father would excel as a racer. It seems there are numerous reasons he believes his dad would make a perfect teammate, even going so far as to say he’d be the ultimate one.
My father is a fountain of knowledge, always ready with interesting facts. He’s had the privilege of traveling extensively, and his profession lies in plant science. He’s not only physically robust but also incredibly intelligent, with a knack for solving puzzles. We’ve embarked on numerous adventures together since I was three, from exploring the Grand Canyon to following the route of the 1928 Tour de France, with him providing support. In fact, he even drove the support vehicle when I rode across America to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis. Indeed, my father would make an exceptional companion.
As the presenter of The Amazing Race, it’s highly improbable that Mr. Keoghan would participate in the race himself, considering his extensive knowledge of all the challenges and their intricacies throughout the years. It’s also noteworthy that Phil’s father made an appearance on TAR once, during Season 13, when Marisa and Brooke were eliminated. I believe Phil’s dad even offered them a warm embrace.
Despite some potential challenges due to health issues, it’s an intriguing question whether Phil or his father could compete on the show, given that Phil is a key figure associated with it. I suspect he may have pondered this idea at various points in time, being part of the creative team. Whatever his response might be, it certainly lived up to expectations.
Currently, I’m pondering what it could be like if Phil participated in a program similar to CBS’ “Survivor” or one of the other popular reality shows. The last time he appeared as a celebrity guest instead of a host was around the time when “Password” was rebooted as “Million Dollar Password” for a new audience, but I believe that was over 15 years ago.
In the meantime, it’s been confirmed that “The Amazing Race” will carry on. The series has been given a green light for Season 38 and is set to maintain the 90-minute episode format it introduced alongside “Survivor” some time back. It’s also likely that Phil won’t be competing with his father, but we might see some exciting father-son teams in future seasons, similar to Jeff and Pops from Season 37.
