In the March 25 update of Overwatch 2, Blizzard has toned down Sojourn‘s abilities, which is a move in the correct direction, but many players remain skeptical that these changes will put an end to her reign.
Starting from Season 15 when Perks were initially introduced, Sojourn has consistently proven to be the top Damage Per-Second (DPS) hero across the entire game. This is largely due to her extraordinary mobility and her ability to dish out significant damage, making her a formidable opponent.
Her frequent appearance in matches sparked numerous requests for a balance adjustment (nerf). She was dominating in almost every game, especially in competitive play. The developers addressed these concerns in the March 25th update, yet the modifications made thus far have failed to resolve the problem.
Sojourn finally nerfed but it’s nowhere near enough
Although players anticipated a significant adjustment, the game update primarily targeted Sojourn’s Power Slide ability. The modification included an additional second in its cooldown and reduced its duration from 1.2 seconds to just one second. This change slightly diminishes her capacity to dodge attacks and confuse opponents.
Nevertheless, her main firepower for inflicting damage and reach remained entirely unchanged, implying she remains just as powerful as she previously was. Similarly, her secondary fire, capable of dealing massive damage in a single headshot, went untouched too.

Initially, the rapid elimination of heroes was a significant issue within the community, as there were concerns that she could eliminate heroes too swiftly, particularly Support characters with lower health. The fact that her primary fire fires automatically and then charges up a precise laser bolt made it possible for her to vaporize squishier heroes in just a few seconds.
From my perspective as an ardent supporter, it’s clear that while there have been minor adjustments to her damage output and the Power Slide move, the primary concern persists: Sojourn lacks a substantial drawback.
After the recent update, numerous gamers expressed their concerns on social platforms, particularly about the absence of game balancing adjustments. A Redditor, for instance, voiced their opinion saying:
The duration reduction for Sojourn is incredibly insignificant; it only increases the slide cooldown by 1 second. With perks, you can still slide twice, which isn’t very impactful. If a hero like Mauga requires a powerful nerf, then Sojourn should be treated in the same way. I’m growing tired of these minor adjustments to obviously overpowered characters.
Fans who were disappointed with the situation also demanded more significant alterations. A few went as far as proposing that if the developers insist on keeping her abilities as powerful, they might consider lowering her health to 225, transforming her into a “glass cannon” character.
Without a doubt, these alterations won’t probably terminate the Sojourn metagame that has been prevailing in Overwatch 2 lately. It’s possible that we might witness further adjustments in the upcoming balance patch, expected to arrive with Season 16.
