‘Snowfall’ Spinoff Pilot Casts Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, Simmie Sims III (EXCLUSIVE)

It’s been reported exclusively by EbMaster that the pilot episode of the “Snowfall” spinoff on FX has brought on board three main cast members.

Actors Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and Simmie Sims III have been added to the cast of the pilot, joining previously announced leads and returning series stars Gail Bean and Isaiah John. Exclusive reports from EbMaster revealed the pilot order back in March. The specific roles for actors Blackk, Smith, and Sims are being kept secret at this time, while Bean and John will continue their characters from “Snowfall.

In the ’90s LA following the conclusion of the initial series, a former drug addict named Bean is determined to bring West Coast rap to the forefront, but he may face conflict due to a dangerous gang war looming on the horizon.

Jharrel Jerome gained significant recognition for his outstanding performance in the critically-lauded Netflix miniseries “When They See Us,” directed by Ava DuVernay, which earned him an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in a limited series or movie. Apart from this, he is well-known for portraying Malik Hodges in the hit NBC series “This Is Us” and will soon appear in “Euphoria” Season 3 on HBO. He has also acted in movies such as “Story Ave” and “Landscape with Invisible Hand.

He is repped by Gersh, M88, The Lede Company and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka.

Previously, Smith has acted in several spin-offs: “All American: Homecoming” and “Legacies,” both airing on The CW. He’s also been seen in “BMF” on Starz and the BET series “The Quad.” In cinema, he was part of Kathryn Bigelow’s production, “Detroit.

Buddy, also known by his stage name, came to prominence when music mogul Scott Vener spotted him. He later secured a deal with Pharrell Williams. Notable artists like Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle, Chance the Rapper, and Miley Cyrus have joined forces with Buddy in their projects. His first studio album, “Harlan & Alondra,” was unveiled to the public in 2018. As an actor, you might recognize him from shows such as “Rap Sh!t” on Max and “Bel-Air” on Peacock.

Malcolm Spellman will pen the pilot and serve as executive producer, joined by Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson who are also executive producers. The production studio is FX Productions. Originally created by the late John Singleton along with Eric Amadio and Andron, “Snowfall” delved into the crack cocaine crisis in South Central Los Angeles from various characters’ viewpoints. These characters included Franklin Saint, a rising drug lord; Teddy McDonald, a CIA agent; and Gustavo “El Oso” Zapata, a cartel enforcer. This critically acclaimed series ran for six seasons on FX from 2017 to 2023.
