‘Snow White’ Gets Disney+ Streaming Date in June

Starting June 11, families will have the opportunity to watch Disney’s live-action version of “Snow White” right in their living rooms, as this much-anticipated family movie is coming to Disney+ for home viewing.

Featuring Rachel Zegler, who gained fame from “West Side Story,” “Snow White” is the latest Disney revamp of one its century-old properties. Originally depicted in the 1937 animated film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” this modern adaptation sees the princess escaping her wicked stepmother, portrayed by Gal Gadot, and bonding with a band of seven woodland dwarves in the forest.

The movie was directed by Marc Webb, who is known for “500 Days of Summer” and “The Amazing Spider-Man”, and scripted by Erin Cressida Wilson, famous for “The Girl on the Train”. However, much like other recent Disney live-action adaptations, this film didn’t perform as well as anticipated, debuting with a domestic box office take of $43 million, lower than expected.

Despite a mixed response from critics and the media buzz surrounding controversies, EbMaster’s film critic, Owen Gleiberman, notes that this movie is “lesser in weight, more lively, and less heavy-footed compared to other live-action Disney remakes like ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘Dumbo,’ or ‘Mulan.’ It seems to be more playful.

The movie showcases 11 songs, with some fresh compositions from the team behind “La La Land,” such as “Good Things Grow” and “A Hand Meets A Hand,” alongside classic favorites like “Whistle While You Work” and “Heigh-Ho” that original fans will appreciate.
