Following its significant 50th anniversary celebration, “Saturday Night Live” is set to resume in March, airing consecutive episodes.
Shane Gillis returns as host once more on March 1st, with Tate McRae, a returning musical performer making her second visit to “Saturday Night Live.
On March 8th, Lady Gaga will take on two roles – hosting and providing the music, a feat she’s accomplished before. Previously, she’s hosted “SNL” once, and graced the stage as the musical guest no less than four times.
Gillis’ Netflix comedy series “Tires” is coming back for Season 2 in the year 2025. Meanwhile, McRae’s third album titled “So Close to What” is scheduled to be released on February 21st. Lady Gaga, fresh from her performance at the Saturday Night Live concert at Radio City Music Hall, plans to release her new album entitled “Mayhem” on March 7th. The 14-time Grammy award winner will take the stage as headliner at Coachella in April.
On February 16th, ‘SNL50: The Anniversary Special’ was broadcast live, a spectacular event lasting over three hours, which saw almost every prominent figure from Studio 8H in attendance. This special program on NBC attracted an impressive 14.8 million viewers, marking a significant increase of more than double the season average and making it NBC’s most-watched primetime entertainment telecast excluding news or sports in the past five years.
Notable star appearances including Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler; popular skits such as “Black Jeopardy,” “Close Encounters,” and “Scared Straight”; and an unforgettable monologue delivered by Steve Martin.
For its significant anniversary, “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) pulled out all the stops. Prior to the special event, a “Homecoming Concert” was held at Radio City Music Hall and live-streamed on Peacock. This concert featured performances by Cher, Jack White, Miley Cyrus, the Lonely Island, Post Malone with Nirvana’s surviving members, and more. Morgan Neville directed a four-part documentary series that looked back at SNL’s history, while Questlove delved into the show’s musical background in a three-hour documentary. Furthermore, fans could immerse themselves in an “SNL” experience at Rockefeller Center to get a taste of what it’s like to host the show.
