‘SNL’ Cast Praises Trump in Sarcastic Cold Open as Dana Carvey Debuts Elon Musk Impression: ‘I Run the Country Now!’

As a movie reviewer with a background in political satire, I must say that the return of Saturday Night Live (SNL) couldn’t have come at a more opportune moment. The first episode post-election was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, a perfect reflection of the current political climate.

In the initial episode following Donald Trump’s election, the actors from “Saturday Night Live” cleverly deceived their audience by expressing admiration towards him.

At the outset, actors gravely debated Trump’s election triumph and cautioned that “now, owing to the Supreme Court, there are no safety measures in place.

“Every single person on this stage voted for you!” added Marcello Hernandez.

Next, Dana Carvey, earlier portraying Joe Biden, stepped onto the screen with his fresh impersonation: Elon Musk. In the opening scene of the Season 50 premiere on Sept. 28, Maya Rudolph, who had starred as Kamala Harris in every cold open of Season 50, was conspicuously absent. Instead, SNL introduced their lineup of guest stars for the 2024 election. Andy Samberg was unveiled as Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff, Jim Gaffigan portrayed her running mate Tim Walz, and Dana Carvey took on Joe Biden. This season, James Austin Johnson and Bowen Yang have been depicting Donald Trump and JD Vance respectively.
