As a longtime fan and supporter of Ariana Grande, I have to say that Saturday night’s performance was nothing short of spectacular! Her ability to flawlessly mimic other iconic singers like Britney Spears, Celine Dion, and even Gwen Stefani, while maintaining her unique charm, is a testament to her exceptional talent.
On a Saturday evening, Ariana Grande graced Studio 8H with her presence as the host, and she delivered impressive impersonations of Britney Spears, Celine Dion, and other artists.
The performer, set to portray Glinda in the highly anticipated “Wicked” this November, shows enthusiasm in her opening speech as she prepares to revisit the renowned studio for the production’s 50th season.
Grande expressed her gratitude and excitement. She was thrilled to return as the host this year, as it had been a remarkable period for her. One of the highlights was playing Glinda in the ‘Wicked’ film, which held great significance for her since she’s deeply rooted in theater. Every theater kid dreams of being either Glinda or Elphaba, and that dream has finally come true for her.
Reflecting on her previous hosting stint, the popular singer expressed, “My last hosting gig was back in 2016, just before we elected our first female president. So, they say the second time’s a charm!
Known for her exceptional vocal abilities, Grande joked about her singing seriousness, stating, “I’d like to clarify one thing; I’m merely the host. This event isn’t about me. I’ll just enjoy myself, keep things relaxed, and maintain a casual atmosphere.
Backstage, Grande received a microphone. “What’s this?” she wondered aloud before starting to sing. “I won’t be singing my favorite notes… I won’t do impressions…” She proceeded to demonstrate her vocal skills by imitating Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Gwen Stefani. Her rendition of Stefani’s No Doubt hit, “Don’t Speak,” was particularly impressive. Grande joked about not doing a lift as she was hoisted into the air and joined by a chorus line of suit-wearing dancers.
Bowen Yang appeared on stage alongside Grande dressed as Glinda from “The Wizard of Oz”. Apparently, they had removed the “Wicked” skit without informing him.
“Oh, that’s okay,” said Yang. “I didn’t really want to do it anyway.” Grande sang back, “Great, and this isn’t a wand, it’s a flask,” she said, yanking the top of Yang’s pink Glinda wand.
I won’t be performing a duet tonight, so there’s no need to invite Stevie Nicks,” I expressed, “And rest assured, I have no plans to introduce any dancers for extravagant high kicks!” Yet, as if defying my words, a glamorous chorus line adorned in shimmering suits graced the stage.
In a different brief skit, she imitated Celine Dion and poked fun at the singer’s unexpected NFL promotion from last week. This time around, Grande’s portrayal of Dion sang about the brutal, bone-shattering UFC fights in a parody of “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.
