I’m so excited! Indie.Io and Positive Concept Games just announced that *Shrine’s Legacy* is coming to Steam on October 7th! I’ve been waiting for this game, and I can’t wait to finally play it.
Shrine’s Legacy is a role-playing game with a classic 16-bit style, reminiscent of games from the Super Nintendo era. It can be played alone or with a friend in co-op mode. The story follows Reima and Rio as they journey to bring balance back to the magical world of Ardemia by restoring the Sword of Shrine.

Positive Concept Games and indie.io are excited to announce the upcoming release of Shrine’s Legacy, a classic JRPG inspired by the beloved 16-bit games of the SNES era. Launching on Steam on October 7th, 2025, Shrine’s Legacy offers both single-player and co-op adventures in the magical world of Ardemia, which is threatened by a returning darkness. Players must unite the Sword of the Shrine with elemental magic to save the world, but the heroes may face a devastating cost.
After centuries of exile, the Dark Lord Aklor is back, and his forces are sweeping across the land. Rio, the rightful heir to an ancient, powerful sword and a descendant of the hero who originally defeated Aklor, is forced to abandon his peaceful life when the evil army attacks his village. Fortunately, Reima, a mage searching for the sword, rescues him. Together, they embark on a desperate quest to gather the eight elemental forces scattered throughout Ardemia, hoping to defeat Aklor and save the world from darkness.
Every battle comes with a price. As Rio and Reima journey across the land, they’ll witness the suffering Aklor’s army inflicts on the world – loss, sadness, and heartbreak will be everywhere. They’ll face their own personal tragedies and have to learn to cope with them. The question is, how much are they willing to give up to prevent the world’s destruction?
Shrine’s Legacy is a role-playing game inspired by classic Japanese RPGs. It features a deep and intricate story, fast-paced combat, and plenty of opportunities to discover hidden secrets. Players control Rio, a close-combat fighter who becomes more powerful with precise timing and by mastering the Sword of the Shrine, and Reima, a spellcaster who uses a variety of magic to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.
To defeat Aklor, players will need to use a variety of skills. The game lets you instantly switch between two characters, or team up with a friend! You can play together on a single screen with a second controller, sharing the challenge of battling Aklor and his minions.
Players will discover a large world filled with dungeons to explore, offering new treasures and a classic JRPG-style character progression system where they can unlock abilities and spells. Outside the dungeons, a sprawling world awaits, brimming with interesting characters and stories, all wrapped in a compelling narrative and brought to life with beautiful pixel art reminiscent of the 16-bit era of gaming, like the classic SNES games.
Ready to face Aklor? Shrine’s Legacy will launch on Steam on October 7th, 2025.
