As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve caught a glimpse of the upcoming crime drama “Smoke,” set to premiere exclusively on Apple TV+. This gripping series, produced by and starring the talented Taron Egerton, is a collaboration between the brilliant minds behind Apple TV+’s “Black Bird.” The first two episodes will be available worldwide on June 27th, ready to captivate audiences everywhere. Can’t wait!
Based on real-life incidents and penned by Dennis Lehane, “Smoke” is a gripping tale that focuses on arson investigator Dave Gudsen (played by Egereton). Gudsen finds himself unwillingly partnered with police detective Michelle Calderone (portrayed by Jurnee Smollett), as they both rush to halt two arsonists. Their collaboration sparks a dangerous dance of hidden truths and doubts. The star-studded cast of “Smoke” includes Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Anna Chlumsky, Adina Porter, Greg Kinnear, and John Leguizamo. Thom Yorke has composed and performed the main theme for “Smoke,” which is now accessible on streaming platforms.
The series ‘Smoke,’ produced by Apple Studios, is the brainchild of Lehane. He not only pens the script but also takes on the roles of writer and executive producer. Egerton, Richard Plepler representing EDEN Productions, Bradley Thomas and Dan Friedkin through Imperative Entertainment, as well as Kari Skogland, Joe Chappelle, and Jane Bartelme, are all involved in the production.
The series draws inspiration from the “Firebug” podcast produced by truth.media, which was overseen by Kary Antholis, an executive producer for Crime Story Media, LLC. Marc Smerling serves as executive producer for Truth Podcasting Corp. Directors for the series include Skogland, Chappelle, and Jim McKay.
New episodes of “Smoke” premiere weekly every Friday through August 15.
