According to co-creator Alfred Gough, the sequel to “Smallville” in an animated format needs to be developed after Warner Bros. finishes working on James Gunn’s “Superman” project.
Warner Bros has been through quite an ordeal, and it seems that their ongoing efforts to revive ‘Superman’ might temporarily delay our project. It’s a bit disappointing, in my opinion, but I’ve heard they are even rebooting ‘Buffy’ for Hulu, so everything seems to return eventually.
Originating from the minds of Gough and Miles Millar, “Smallville” was a long-running series that spanned 10 seasons and 217 episodes on The CW. This show centered around young Clark Kent (portrayed by Welling), who was discovering how to use his extraordinary abilities for the greater good in the picturesque town of Smallville, Kansas.
Gough further mentioned a possible twist in the “Smallville” sequel series could stem from the shift in leadership at Warner Bros. In 2022, James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed co-CEOs of DC Studios – a new division created to manage DC characters within WB.
Gough pointed out that one of the main issues with projects being developed at studios or networks is the frequent changes in leadership.”
This version attempts to convey the original meaning while using everyday words and a more casual tone.
Gunn’s upcoming film, “Superman,” set to hit theaters on July 11, will offer a crucial assessment of how his reimagined DC Studios will perform amidst a movie market that seems weary of superhero movies. The cast includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl.
