Smaller Game Studios Are Struggling To Get Nintendo Switch 2 Dev Kits – Report

As a gamer, I’ve heard whispers that small-scale game developers are struggling to get their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 dev kits before its rumored release in June. It seems like they’re having a tough time getting the necessary tools to create games for the upcoming console.

Representatives from both major (AA) and independent game studios have shared their concerns with The Game Business in a recent newsletter. A co-founder of an AA game studio expressed their frustration by stating, “Eager to start developing for the new consoles, we wanted early access to dev kits. Nintendo has acknowledged our request, but it seems we may not receive anything for several more months.

In essence, the developers from The Game Business who were consulted do not appear to anticipate a significant boost for indie games coinciding with the release of Switch 2. They are eagerly awaiting further details about the procedure for obtaining a development kit for Switch 2 from Nintendo, given that more information regarding the system has been disclosed.

It appears that Nintendo was quite choosy when it came to letting external studios create games for the Switch 2 initially. The Switch 2 Direct presentation unveiled several third-party launch titles, but most of them were big-budget games from companies such as From Software, CD Projekt Red, and WB Games. As for indie games, only Deltarune and Fast Fusion have been confirmed for the launch day so far.

Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5. Preorders go live April 9.
