Over a decade after his Oscar-winning performance in Ray, Jamie Foxx appeared in the action thriller Sleepless. While the film wasn’t a box office success when it came out in 2017, it’s recently gaining popularity and is now trending on HBO Max.
According to FlixPatrol, Sleepless is currently the fifth most popular movie on HBO Max globally. It’s performing better than films like The Phoenician Scheme, The Duchess, As Above, So Below, Ma, and others, which rank from sixth to tenth place.
This film, directed by Baran bo Odar, is a new version of the 2011 French movie Sleepless Night. Andrea Berloff wrote the screenplay, and Jamie Foxx plays Vincent Downs, an undercover police officer in Las Vegas.
The movie Sleepless follows Vincent as he gets tangled up with crooked police officers, investigators looking into police misconduct, and dangerous criminals. After a robbery goes wrong and his teenage son is kidnapped, Vincent has one chaotic night to rescue him and make sure the people responsible are caught.
Even with a well-known cast including Michelle Monaghan, Dermot Mulroney, T.I., and Gabriel Union, the movie Sleepless wasn’t successful in theaters. Box Office Mojo reports it only earned $32.9 million worldwide, despite costing $30 million to make, meaning it didn’t make any money.
The movie wasn’t very successful for Jamie Foxx, receiving negative reviews. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a score of only 25%, and fans rated it just 37% based on over 5,000 reviews.
Foxx Will Star in 2 Upcoming Boxing Projects
Jamie Foxx’s next project is a Netflix drama called Fight for ’84, inspired by his own life. It was announced in May 2025 and is currently being finished, according to IMDb. The film will feature Foxx as a coach tasked with rebuilding the U.S. Olympic boxing team after a tragic plane crash took the lives of the previous team years before.
Jamie Foxx is also preparing to play Mike Tyson in a new TV series called Tyson. DeShawn Harold Mitchell, known for his role in Godfather of Harlem, will also star. According to IMDb, the series is currently in development.
Sleepless is streaming on HBO Max globally and on Starz in the United States.
