Slay the Spire 2 is Now the Biggest Roguelike on Steam, Beating Elden Ring Nightreign

Since launching yesterday, Slay the Spire 2 has quickly become the most popular rogue-like game on Steam. It’s already reached a peak of over 414,000 players at the same time, and that number continues to grow.

Not only has Slay the Spire 2 surpassed the original game in popularity, but it’s also become the most-played rogue-like game on the platform, exceeding Elden Ring Nightreign‘s peak of 313,593 concurrent players. It’s important to note that Elden Ring Nightreign was a fully released game, while Slay the Spire 2 is still in early access and will be for at least another year or two.

Several other games have sold significantly fewer copies, including Megabonk (117,336), Don’t Starve Together (115,925), and Hades 2 (112,947). Given that the first Slay the Spire sold over 1.5 million copies after its full release, it’s interesting to consider how well the sequel is performing.

Currently available on PC, Slay the Spire 2 lets you play as five different characters, including two new ones: The Necrobinder and The Regent. Like the first game, you’ll climb the treacherous Spire, making choices and building a powerful deck to overcome increasingly difficult enemies. You can also play with friends, as the game supports co-op for up to four players. The developers at Mega Crit haven’t announced future plans yet, so keep an eye out for more news.
