As a seasoned movie buff with over three decades of cinema-going under my belt, I must say that the 2025 Slamdance Film Festival lineup is nothing short of exhilarating! The festival’s move from Park City to Los Angeles seems like a wise decision, considering the city’s rich film history and vibrant independent film scene.

The 2025 lineup for the 31st Slamdance Film Festival has been unveiled, marking the transition of the event from Park City to Los Angeles.

The festival will take place from February 20th to the 26th, with the opening ceremony commencing at The Egyptian Theatre. Following this, screenings will alternate between the Director’s Guild of America and West Hollywood Quixote buildings. Out of the 146 films chosen for the event, 21 are debut presentations, and films from as many as 20 countries will be showcased, including Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Greece, Jamaica, Japan, Norway, among others.

Approximately one-third (38%) of Slamdance’s program consists of productions created by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists, whereas about half (55%) are helmed by female directors.

In this crucial time for independent films, Slamdance’s new phase in Los Angeles is an ideal setting for a 2025 lineup that breaks away from tradition, amplifies fresh perspectives, and embodies the brave, autonomous heart we carry: by filmmakers, for all audiences,” expressed Taylor Miller, the festival director of Slamdance.
