Skydance Sports collaborates with the National Football League (NFL) and Hidden Empire Film Group (HEFG) in organizing the third edition of the NFL Career Tour. This initiative aims to offer NFL players a glimpse into the world of show business.
The NFL’s Player Engagement team has developed a program that provides contemporary players and football greats with an opportunity to gain insight into various industries through experiences, as well as network with high-level executives.
The NFL in partnership with Hidden Empire Studio is hosting a three-day career tour in Santa Monica, California. This exclusive event delves deep into the world of entertainment, featuring educational seminars, practical workshops, and extensive camera training. The climax of this program sees participants producing a short film, where they apply their learnings by taking on roles such as shooting, production, direction, and acting for the project.
At the summit held last year, there were well-known personalities such as Tyrese Gibson, Master P, NFL stars Vernon Davis, Rocket Ismail, and Ephraim Salaam gracing our panel. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn from and work alongside veterans in the entertainment industry like Michael Ealy, Demetrius Shipp Jr., Steven Caple Jr., Joe Carnahan, Kurt Wimmer, Charles Murray, and Rodney Barnes.
The summit of last year featured star-studded panelists including Tyrese Gibson, Master P, NFL greats Vernon Davis, Rocket Ismail, and Ephraim Salaam. Additionally, participants gained knowledge and collaborated with industry veterans such as Michael Ealy, Demetrius Shipp Jr., Steven Caple Jr., Joe Carnahan, Kurt Wimmer, Charles Murray, and Rodney Barnes in the entertainment sector.
As a passionate cinephile, I wholeheartedly agree that an NFL career is merely the opening act. The true challenge lies in creating a prosperous life beyond the stadium. That’s why this collaboration with the NFL is indispensable – it arms players with the necessary tools, contacts, and chances to flourish even after the last play has been called. Roxanne Avent Taylor, co-CEO of Hidden Empire, expressed this thought eloquently: “This partnership offers a unique, innovative approach to nurture today’s athletes into tomorrow’s influential figures in the film and television industry.
Skydance Sports – the partnership between the NFL and Skydance Media – is set to offer insights into the world of sports programming. This includes granting participants an engaging, ‘behind-the-scenes’ writers’ room experience. The projects under this joint venture range from the critically acclaimed movie “Air” (nominated for Golden Globes) and the Sports Emmy-nominated docuseries “Good Rivals”.
As an ardent admirer, I firmly echo the sentiments expressed by Jason Reed, head of Skydance Sports. I wholeheartedly agree that current and past athletes possess a wealth of knowledge and stories that are invaluable to Hollywood storytelling. My mission is to provide these players with a fresh perspective on the inner workings of the film industry, helping them discover how they can harness their exceptional talents and life experiences to create something truly captivating.
Just recently, the Hidden Empire Film Group, headed by co-CEOs Deon and Roxanne Avent Taylor, in conjunction with The Union, unveiled Hidden Empire Sports Collective (HESC). This new arm of the film studio aims to focus on intellectual property development and content creation centered around athletes and sports.
Deon Taylor, co-CEO of Hidden Empire, expressed that our resolve in helping athletes move forward in their lives remains strong. We’re thrilled to offer them a unique chance to broaden their perspectives, pursue their creative aspirations, and redefine their successful careers. This partnership highlights our commitment to fostering talent and discovering new avenues, setting the stage for these exceptional figures to leave a lasting impact in the entertainment industry.
Under the supervision of The Union’s joint CEO, Sumair Khan, HESC will operate. Additionally, Rodney Guillroy and Ephraim Salaam have been appointed to join the management team, with Guillroy serving as the president of talent strategy and Salaam taking on the role of creative executive.
Tracy Perlman, senior vice president of player operations for the NFL, stated that the fresh division of Hidden Empire offers attendees a chance to learn about every aspect of the show business. Not only does this setup grant access to influential figures in talent and entertainment, but it also offers a valuable networking opportunity for the group, making it an excellent resource.
2022 saw Skydance Sports broaden its collaboration with the NFL and NFL Films, aiming to create a more diverse array of multi-platform sports content. This includes the upcoming docuseries “America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys,” focusing on the Dallas Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones; a documentary about Hall of Famer John Elway; a series on tennis legend Rafael Nadal; and a scripted series for Hulu, spearheaded by Dan Fogelman. Recent projects already unveiled include “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” (Hallmark), “Aaron Rodgers: Enigma” (Netflix), “Freediver” (Prime Video), “Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants” (HBO), “NFL Draft: The Pick Is In” (The Roku Channel) and “Kelce” (Prime Video).
