The fan-created project known as Skyblivion, which aims to transfer The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion into Skyrim’s game engine, is almost finished. The modding team behind the project, TESRenewal, recently revealed this in a new demonstration video featuring some of Oblivion’s revamped cities. However, they haven’t set an exact release date yet; it will be sometime in 2025.
The team stated, reiterating what was said back in 2023, that creating games demands time, and this is especially true for a volunteer project of AAA game scale, which required a team of professional developers several years to complete. However, they are excited to announce that Skyblivion has reached a stage where they can confidently promise a release by 2025 at the latest. They aim with your support to finish the remaining tasks and bring their dream to fruition, perhaps even surpassing their own forecast.
As a devoted supporter, I’m proud to share that we, as a collective, choose not to accept donations for our efforts. Instead, the earnings generated from our 2024 charity livestream were generously contributed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In this video, similar to TESRenewal’s update from six months back, there is an extensive guide on a new quest called The Fighter’s Quest. This demonstrates the immense effort the team has invested in their project. Not only have they enhanced lighting and increased the quality of assets, but they’ve also introduced a revamped leveling system, altered boss battles, adjusted enemy difficulty levels, and expanded various locations. Moreover, they’ve managed to make Oblivion’s classes and spellcraft functional within Skyrim’s engine and have incorporated suggestions from fans throughout the development process.
In their upcoming months, TESRenewal plans to focus on rectifying bugs and improving performance in some of Oblivion’s unfinished cities. When Skyblivion is released, it will encompass the entirety of Oblivion, including all side quests and locations. Interestingly, Skyblivion itself will be offered free of charge; however, to use it, you’ll need Skyrim: Special Edition, the original Oblivion game, and all its DLC. These essential components are accessible on Steam.
