Skate Reboot To Launch In Early Access In 2025

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for the return of Skate to our gaming screens. It’s been a long and tumultuous wait since the release of Skate 3 back in 2010, and the news that EA Full Circle is working on a soft reboot has sent shivers of anticipation down my spine.

For quite some time now, a gaping hole existed following Activision’s non-renewal of the Tony Hawk video game license back in 2015. During this period, Robomodo took charge of the series from 2008 to 2015. The extreme sports genre had been dormant for years until the remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 hit the market in 2020. Remarkably, Electronic Arts (EA) brought back one of its classic franchises, Skate, in the very same year.

The publishing company created a new studio within EA Full Circle back in 2020, and it’s been working on a game since then. In 2022, it was announced that the upcoming Skate game will be a fresh take (soft reboot) and will be available for free-to-play (F2P). Lately, the developers have shared some exciting news about the development progress of Skate, indicating that it’s scheduled to enter Early Access in 2025, as suggested by their latest social media update.

Enthusiasts, much like many others, have been anxiously waiting for further details regarding the progress of Skate, following its official reveal, together with the introduction of a new development team in 2020 – ten years after the last installment in the series, Skate 3. With EA Full Circle leading the revival of the franchise, fans can finally look forward to executing grinds and slides, footplants, classic tricks, and aerial stunts, as they’ve announced an Early Access launch is planned for next year.

Information about the evolution of Skate has been rather subdued, given that it’s been under EA’s Insider playtesting program for PC, enabling the developers to refine the game based on player input. This was hinted at during EA’s Investor Day presentation by Laura Miele, the president of EA Entertainment and Technology, who mentioned that the development team has taken a forward-thinking approach, aiming to create a platform driven by the community that surpasses the conventional Skate game experience.

Additionally, EA and Full Circle aim to maintain a community-oriented approach for Skate after its release in Early Access, soliciting feedback from players to refine the game based on their insights and input. By equipping players with tools, features, and accessibility options, they can collaborate in creating an authentic Skate experience. The Skate reboot is planned for consoles, PC, and unexpectedly, mobile devices; however, specifics regarding the mobile version are yet to be disclosed at this time.
