As a die-hard fan of Sk8 the Infinity, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming OVA! The first season was a rollercoaster ride of adrenaline-pumping skateboarding action and captivating storytelling that perfectly captured the spirit of rebellion and youth.
Even though we’re all eagerly anticipating Season 2 of Sk8 the Infinity, there’s exciting news: an OVA (Original Video Animation) has been announced for release in 2025! Some lucky fans will even get to watch it ahead of everyone else.
When it comes to sports anime, there aren’t many that are as unconventional as Sk8 the Infinity. Just as you might imagine, this animated series revolves around skateboarding, with teenagers participating in underground, high-speed competitions on their boards after dark.
This TV series is all about fun and freedom, mirroring the spirit of skating and adventure. It debuted in the year 2022, and ahead of the second season, we’ll be treated to four special episodes, airing from March 19, 2025.
The forthcoming mini-series titled “Sk8 the Infinity: Additional Episodes” consists of four episodes. A brief trailer hints at the appearance of the primary characters, with the storyline details remaining sparse.
In addition to the regular four-part show, fans in Japan have an extra treat coming their way. The additional segment, titled Extra Part, will be screened in movie theaters on January 24, 2025. When we say “limited,” it means exactly that – at present, it’s only planned for ten cinemas spread across Japan.
There’s a possibility for further distribution, but given that this is a spin-off and not an entirely new production, the likelihood seems quite low. If cinemas in the UK or US screen it, it will likely be for a short period because OVA releases are generally smaller in scale compared to pre-release compilations or full-length feature films.
Despite the wait, it’s great news that Sk8 the Infinity isn’t over yet as we anticipate Season 2. Studio Bones has been working tirelessly since 2022, but they haven’t confirmed a release date just yet. They have their hands full with My Hero Academia, producing both an anime movie called “You’re Next” this year and Season 7.
No matter when the next installment of Sk8 comes, let’s make sure it’s just as powerful as the last one – and before diving into the main story, we can enjoy a scenic interlude first.
