‘Sinners’ Trailer: Michael B. Jordan Reunites With ‘Black Panther’ Director Ryan Coogler and Battles a Terrifying Evil

As a seasoned cinema enthusiast with over three decades of movie-going under my belt, I must say that the upcoming film “Sinners” has me utterly thrilled! The prospect of another collaboration between Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan is simply too tantalizing to resist.

The secretive fifth project by Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, initially unveiled in January, is finally offering a glimpse to the public. The highly anticipated movie titled “Sinners” is now showcasing its gripping violence. The film will be released on March 7, 2025, under Warner Bros.’ banner.

The eagerly awaited horror-thriller, penned by Coogler from an original script, is set in the racially charged Jim Crow era of the 1930s South and was filmed in the New Orleans area earlier this year. Details about the project had been tightly guarded, but on Monday, it was revealed that the movie will be called “Sinners.” Jordan shared the film’s poster, featuring a close-up shot of the actor wearing two different costumes, suggesting he’ll play twins in the movie, on his social media accounts with the caption, “Dance with the devil…and he’ll follow you home.” The star-studded cast includes Jordan, Delroy Lindo, Jack O’Connell, Hailee Steinfeld, Omar Benson Miller, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Li Jun Li, Lola Kirke, along with newcomers Yao, Miles Caton, and Peter Dreimanis. Warner Bros. has scheduled the film for a March 7, 2025 release in IMAX theaters.

Ryan Coogler was in charge of directing this film, marking his return to the director’s chair since 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. He also served as producer for the project, alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, under his Proximity Media label. The executive producers include Ludwig Göransson from Proximity (having just won his second Oscar for composing the score of “Oppenheimer”), Rebecca Cho, Will Greenfield, among others. Francine Maisler, who had previously worked with Coogler on “Creed”, is back to oversee the casting department.

Jordan has starred in every one of Coogler’s films since 2013, starting with “Fruitvale Station” and followed by the “Creed” and “Black Panther” series. In January, there were rumors that Coogler and Jordan were collaborating on a secret project, which was presented to executives and buyers at WME offices under a veil of secrecy.

A fierce competition arose between WME and M88, with representatives Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan handling the negotiations. Warner Bros. emerged victorious in acquiring the high-profile collection, bringing together the film studio’s co-chairmen and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy once more with Coogler and Jordan, following their successful partnership on “Creed III.” (Previously, they had given the go-ahead for the boxing film while at MGM.) The agreement was also structured in an unusual manner, allowing some rights to the movie to be returned to Coogler over a span of several decades.

Excitement grew even higher this spring as cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who worked on “Wakanda Forever,” shared a clapperboard picture with the words “Take 1” and the message, “Get ready.” (Arkapaw had covered up the film’s temporary title “Grilled Cheese” with black heart emojis.) The cinematographer had previously hinted at the project’s progress by sharing a photo of Ryan Coogler peering into a Panavision system 65 camera.
