The chilling horror film titled “Sinners” has climbed its way onto numerous all-time box office rankings. This is Ryan Coogler’s fifth feature film, with a list of previous works that includes “Fruitvale Station“, “Creed“, and the two blockbusters “Black Panther“. By blending historical drama and horror elements, “Sinners” narrates the tale of twins Smoke and Stack (played by Michael B. Jordan), who discover upon their homecoming that they are about to face an impending evil. The star-studded cast of “Sinners” includes Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Caton, Delroy Lindo, and Hailee Steinfeld.
After only three weeks since its debut, “Sinners” has managed to conquer several box office rankings. According to “The Numbers,” this horror film now ranks among the top 15 highest-earning R-rated movies in the U.S., and it’s even made it into Warner Bros.’ top 40. It’s worth noting that it has edged out “Ted” to secure the 15th position on the list of highest-grossing R-rated movies, with only “Logan” ahead of it. In terms of its standing within the Warner Bros. catalog, it has now surpassed 2023’s “Wonka” to enter the top 40. Additionally, “Sinners” has moved up to the fourth spot in the list of the highest-grossing horror movies domestically of all time.
What This Means For Sinners
Sinners Has Made Unprecedented Strides
As Sinners was set to debut, there were rumors circulating that it might not succeed. A Puck report from April 15 hinted at Warner Bros.’ overestimation of the $90 million budget. Given this cost, the movie would have had to earn approximately $300 million to break even, which was quite an extraordinary achievement for an original, non-series, R-rated horror film.
Despite recently reaching significant box office milestones, the movie “Sinners” has once again demonstrated that Warner Bros. made a wise decision when it came to budgeting, as it is steadily approaching the prestigious $300 million mark. With a current gross of $288.7 million, it’s only a matter of time before it breaks this barrier, likely this weekend if not sooner. Interestingly, among R-rated films on the charts, most are sequels or part of established franchises. Only three are horror movies: “Sinners”, “It”, and “The Exorcist”.
Our Take On Sinners’ New Box Office Records
Sinners Reviews Have Helped The Movie
Examining Sinners against other films on the box office chart, it’s evident that word-of-mouth has significantly boosted this movie’s success. With a strong following for R-rated hits such as Deadpool and Logan, Sinners had to establish its own reputation. The film’s reviews remain predominantly favorable, which probably accounts for its lasting appeal. As the movie continues to play for audiences, it will be intriguing to observe if its momentum will lead it to shine during award season towards the end of this year and the beginning of 2026.
