‘Singles Inferno’ Renewed for Fourth Season as Netflix Expands Unscripted Korean Slate

As a dedicated fan of Korean content and someone who has closely followed the trends in the industry, I am thrilled to see Netflix’s commitment to expanding its unscripted TV offerings in South Korea. The diversity and depth of the upcoming shows are truly impressive, and I believe that each one holds unique appeal for local and global audiences alike.

As a passionate film and TV enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Netflix is ramping up its Korean unscripted TV offerings at an impressive pace. This year alone, they plan to debut no less than ten new shows! That’s more than we saw in 2022. These programs cover a wide range of genres, from heartwarming romance and enticing cooking shows to side-splitting comedies. Can’t wait to dive in and explore this diverse lineup!

As a movie buff and a fan of Korean content, I can tell you from my perspective that the director of content at Netflix Korea, Yoo Hi-kwan, emphasizes the significance of local appeal over quantity. He believes that to capture the hearts of global viewers, it’s essential to first win over local audiences with shows that resonate deeply with them. Each production has its unique charm and caters to what the audience is looking for in their content.

As a dedicated fan of K-pop and Korean entertainment, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about the upcoming lineup on the new TV channel. The first show, “The Influencer,” which premieres on Aug. 6, is particularly intriguing to me. Having followed the careers of many idols who started out as actors before making their musical debuts, I can’t wait to see Cho Jung-seok’s journey unfold on this reality series. His transformation from a respected actor to a singer is a testament to his versatility and dedication to his craft. I have high expectations for this program, and I’m eagerly looking forward to witnessing every step of the way.

In “The Influencer,” 77 influential South Korean personalities go head-to-head in a competition produced by Kakao Entertainment. Notable figures such as Jang Keun-suk, RISABAE, PaniBottle, Jin Yong-jin, Shim Eu-ddeum, and DaeDo are among the participants, vying to demonstrate their strongest impact on society.

In September, Netflix introduces the cooking competition show “Culinary Class Wars,” produced by Studio Slam. This exciting new series brings together 100 renowned chefs and undiscovered culinary masters for a grand showdown. The esteemed judges of the show are Paik Jong-won, a legendary restaurateur known for his golden touch, and Chef Anh Sung-jae from MOSU Seoul.

In October, Kakao Entertainment will debut the comedy show “Comedy Revenge.” With a career spanning 43 years and a win in the previous “Comedy Royale,” comedy veteran Lee Kyung-kyu will this time head a team of Korea’s 22 best comedians in a fresh humor competition.

“Rugged Rugby: Survive or Perish” – a thrilling reality sports program, brings you the fierce competition among rugby players. Created by Chang Si-won and Choi Tae-gyu from STUDIO C1, it’s set to debut in December.

In late 2024 and early 2025, “Zombieverse: New Blood” and “The Devil’s Plan 2” are set to make their comebacks with new seasons. For “Zombieverse,” the second season takes an unscripted approach as contestants navigate a simulated zombie apocalypse. Their missions require them to travel to various locations such as Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, in order to survive.

In “The Devil’s Plan” by TEO, participants representing various occupations live and compete against each other for a week to determine which one has the greatest intellect.

The popular dating show “Singles Inferno,” known for its fiery dynamics, is coming back for a fourth season. Created by Shijak Company, this show brings together attractive singles on a deserted island, where they can only leave as couples. In the previous season, it ranked among the Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows for five consecutive weeks and made it to the Top 10 lists in 31 countries.

At “Kian’s Quirky Bed & Breakfast” located on the picturesque island of Ulleungdo, you’ll find a unique guesthouse and an unconventional host named KIAN84. This charming establishment is home to a vibrant array of guests, who come seeking tranquility and shared experiences. The production is a creation of Studio Modak and is set to debut in 2025.

The slate was unveiled Friday at the Netflix Unscripted Festival in Seoul.
