‘Single Residence Occupancy’ Wins Imagine Entertainment, Adobe and the Film Zone’s From Minutes to Movies ShortFest (EXCLUSIVE)

As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of cinema, I can confidently say that the From Minutes to Movies ShortFest competition has truly uncovered some extraordinary talent. The creative brilliance displayed by the winners, Omer Ben Shachar and Belinda Huijuan Tang, is nothing short of inspiring. Their story, “Single Residence Occupancy,” not only showcases their ability to craft a compelling narrative but also highlights the struggles faced by many immigrants in today’s world.

I’m thrilled to share that the short film “Single Residence Occupancy,” a masterpiece we co-created with Omer Ben Shachar and Belinda Huijuan Tang, has been crowned the top honoree in the From Minutes to Movies ShortFest competition!

As a passionate cinephile, I’ve been following the buzz around the groundbreaking short film festival jointly organized by Imagine Entertainment, Adobe, and The Film Zone. With an astounding 4,000 submissions pouring in, this unique event has become a beacon for aspiring filmmakers and creators, particularly those eager to expand their horizons into longer format productions, aiming to captivate new audiences.

Living in Overcrowded Conditions” refers to a Chinese immigrant who, despite her family’s cramped living situation, was denied better housing. She now faces the challenge of breaking this news to her children. Imagine Entertainment plans to guide creators Shachar and Tang in transforming this idea into either a series or feature film for distribution. As the contest winners, they will receive a cash prize of $7,500.

Marc Gilbar, President of Imagine Brands’ IP & Partnerships, noted the exceptional talents of budding filmmakers discovered in the first From Minutes to Movies Shortfest. He expressed Imagine’s eagerness to support Sachar and Tang, our first-place winners, in refining their work even more. Marc added that he is thankful to Adobe and The Film Zone for their assistance in fostering creativity and offering opportunities to numerous young artists through this social media-focused festival.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I recently admired two remarkable films in a competition. The second-place winner, “Lola,” directed and written by Grace Hanna, is a heartwarming tale about a 13-year-old science whiz who ventures into her grandma’s fading mind to safeguard a cherished memory they share. On the other hand, the third-place winner, “Fishers of Men,” directed by Chris Capel, offers an insightful look at a young Mormon missionary embarking on his two-year service. Both Hanna and Capel will receive $5,000 and $2,500 respectively, while all top three finalists are granted mentorship opportunities.

Schachar, Hanna, and Capel will take part in a panel talk at the creativity conference of Adobe MAX, held at Miami Beach from October 14-16. Their success stories will be highlighted, as they utilized Adobe applications like Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and After Effects to materialize their ambitious projects, which were among the finalists.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but be awestruck by the extraordinary skill, inventiveness, and unique narratives showcased in these winning entries. This competition is all about breaking barriers and exploring new realms of filmmaking creativity, and that’s exactly what these talented individuals, Omer Ben Shachar and Belinda Huijuan Tang, have done so brilliantly. At Adobe, we are dedicated to equipping visionaries like them with tools that can transform their artistic dreams into reality, and we take great pride in being part of the journey that nurtures the next wave of filmmakers, in collaboration with Imagine Entertainment and The Film Zone. The future is bright with these promising storytellers at the helm, and I eagerly anticipate what they will unleash upon the world of cinema.

Submissions for the festival took place between July 9 and Aug. 25. The top 10 entries were shared with the @TheFilmZone, @ImagineEntertainment and @Adobe communities on Instagram, where the remaining seven finalists competed for the fan-voted Audience Award. The top three and Audience Award winners will receive a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud for one year.

Christian Dwarica, the founder of The Film Zone, expressed his enthusiasm for three remarkable projects: ‘Single Residence Occupancy,’ ‘Lola,’ and ‘Fishers of Men.’ He emphasized that being involved in nurturing new talent in the creative and filmmaking industry is crucial to its growth. Being a part of this program alongside Imagine Entertainment and Adobe is not just an honor, but also a privilege,” said Dwarica.
