Silent Hill f fans nickname new Casual difficulty “Kato Mode” after IRL Hinako actress

The latest update for Silent Hill f, patch 1.10, just released, and players in Japan are already playfully calling its easiest difficulty setting after the actress who portrays Hinako.

Players are informally referring to the easy difficulty setting as “Kato Mode,” named after Konatsu Kato, the actress who plays the main character, Hinako Shimizu. Her popular gameplay videos have become incredibly popular online.

Things haven’t always gone easily, and the actress playing Hinako has often found the game challenging on her PlayStation 5. But this difficulty has actually become a source of entertainment, and it’s now inspired a new nickname for the game’s easier mode.

Kato recently streamed a playthrough where she battled Sakuko, a challenging early boss in the game. She’s been struggling with the game, but things took a turn for the better on November 13th when Konami released a ‘Casual’ mode, making it significantly easier.

Players will be able to choose an easier difficulty, called ‘Casual,’ after experiencing the Game Over screen a few times. This should give Kato a break, and it’s become very popular with players already!

Fans have jokingly named this game mode after the actress Kato, but many people think she’ll focus on completing the game on Story mode. One commenter explained, “Since she’s new to gaming, a controller might seem confusing. She’d likely prefer to play the game directly rather than using one, even with this new mode available.”

Someone else chimed in, saying she’d probably just shrug it off with a confident, ‘What’s done is done,’ like she wasn’t worried at all.

Since the release of Silent Hill f, Kato has become a significant attraction thanks to her acclaimed performance as Hinako. She previously shared that playing the role was incredibly challenging, even affecting her mental well-being – she felt like she was ‘almost losing it’ and described it as the most difficult experience of her life.
