Sideral Acquires Hybrid Live-Action/Animation Feature ‘The Van’ for Global Distribution (EXCLUSIVE)

Stellar Films has been given the authority to distribute Eloy Calvo’s popular Spanish mixed-media production titled “The Van” (or “La Furgo”). The movie will make its debut at the BCN Film Festival on April 26, and it is scheduled for a theatrical release in Spain on June 20.

Originating from Teidees, a company known for animation, “The Van” is directed by Marta Alonso and Sílvia Cortés. This project is funded by RTVE, 3CAT, and receives additional support from the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC) and Crea SGR. The movie is adapted from a comic book with the same title, created by Martin Tognola and Ramón Pardina.

Calvo likened Sideral‘s involvement in the film to turning on an engine: “Their endorsement gave us the gasoline we needed to get going, to bring our story to the public. We hope that ‘The Van’ resonates with audiences and leaves them with a lasting impression.”

Calvo viewed Sideral’s involvement in the film as similar to starting an engine: “Their backing was the gas we needed to get moving, to bring our story out into the open. We hope that ‘The Van’ will resonate with viewers and create a memorable experience.

In “The Van,” we find ourselves with Oso, portrayed by Pol López, a 45-year-old divorced man who resides in his van as he strives to rebuild his life in Barcelona. Among an eclectic cast of characters, he battles to achieve stability. However, the wedding of his former partner serves as a trigger, pushing him to his breaking point. “The Van” is a moving comedy-drama that delves into topics such as vulnerability, self-discovery, and the quest for fresh starts.

Maria Oliva from Sideral shared her enthusiasm about the partnership: “Sometimes things fall into place just when you’re in the right spot at the right time. And that’s exactly what happened with Marta – we met at an opportune moment. We’re thrilled to be part of distributing this film, as it coincides with a remarkable period for Catalan cinema, with Pol López shining brightly and Eloy masterfully directing.

Collaborators Marta Alonso and Sílvia Cortés also commended the alliance: “Having worked on the film alongside such a gifted crew, it’s only fitting that Sideral becomes part of ‘The Van’s’ voyage. A distributor who invests time and energy into chosen projects, and consistently delivers top-notch results.
