In March 2025, Netflix is set to add some fantastic new films to its lineup, and there’s one particular title that will delight fans of Taylor Sheridan’s work.
For the past few months, Sheridanheads have had an uninterrupted stream of fresh content. Shows like Landman, Yellowstone, Lioness, and 1923 have kept them entertained with numerous new episodes from their favorite TV series.
In a similar vein, it’s quite simple to overlook the fact that the artist behind Yellowstone initially embarked on his artistic voyage in front of the big screen. Given his numerous outstanding neo-Western productions, deciding on a starting point could prove challenging.
Thankfully, Netflix knows what’s up, and the streaming service is adding his best movie very soon.
Sicario drops on Netflix on March 1
Starting March 1st, the crime thriller “Sicario,” penned by Taylor Sheridan (creator of Yellowstone), will become available for streaming. This movie was directed by Denis Villeneuve.
In the movie titled Sicario, starring Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin, we follow the story of a skilled FBI agent with extensive experience, who unwillingly becomes part of an operation to capture a notorious and influential drug lord operating in Mexico.
Following its debut, Sicario swiftly earned recognition as one of the top films of 2015. Later on, it was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival and received nominations for three Oscars – Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Sound Editing among them.
The thriller marked the beginning of what later became known as Sheridan’s informal “Frontier Trilogy.” Two subsequent films, “Hell or High Water” (released in 2016) and “Wind River” (2017), completed this series.
Currently, the movie Sicario boasts an exceptionally impressive rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of this writing. Additionally, it proved to be a financial triumph, raking in a global revenue of $84.9 million while only requiring a budget of $30 million for its production.
In 2018, a follow-up titled “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” hit the screens. Since then, there’s been talk about a third installment, “Sicario: Capos,” but progress on that front has slowed down.
