Shudder Buys Erotic Thriller ‘The Dead Thing,’ Plans February Release (EXCLUSIVE)

As a long-time horror enthusiast with a penchant for independent cinema, I am genuinely thrilled about the acquisition of “The Dead Thing” by Shudder. Having been a devoted subscriber since its early days and advocating for it on various podcasts, witnessing this film find a home on such an esteemed platform is nothing short of exhilarating.

Thrillingly, Shudder, AMC Networks’ streaming platform specializing in horror, thriller, and supernatural content, has secured “The Dead Thing” before its American debut at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival. This agreement covers distribution rights for North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

The sensual mystery story revolves around a young lady entangled in a string of shallow relationships, who then finds herself smitten by an alluring and compassionate gentleman. However, it’s later revealed that he harbors a sinister secret, causing their romantic involvement to escalate into a perilous fixation for her.

Under the title “The Dead Thing”, Elric Kane is making his first solo directorial venture, a project jointly written by Webb Wilcoxen and himself. The cast includes Blu Hunt, known for his role in “The New Mutants”, and Ben Smith-Petersen, previously a stuntman on “Mad Max: Fury Road”. This film premiered worldwide at the Fantasia International Film Festival and is set to debut on Shudder on Valentine’s Day.

Kane, who has been a Shudder subscriber since nearly its inception and has spoken highly of it on podcasts for quite some time, expressed excitement that their film is now under Shudder’s care. Kane admires how Shudder broadens the horizons of horror by featuring films that challenge the genre’s limits. They believe that their film fits this category and draw inspiration from the independent movies Shudder has previously released.

Samuel Zimmerman, Shudder’s Vice President of Programming, expressed his excitement about ‘The Dead Thing’, a chilling and insightful production by Elric Kane, who has already made significant contributions to the genre. He’s delighted that this horror film will find its home on their platform,” is one possible way to paraphrase the original statement in a natural and easy-to-read manner.

The arrangement was handled by Justin Timms, Hugues Barbier, and Joe Yanick from Yellow Veil Pictures, acting for the filmmakers, and Zimmerman representing Shudder.

Title “The Dead Thing” is created by Matt Mercer, Monte Yazzie, with Rebekah McKendry serving as an executive producer. Talent Kane is represented by Atlas Artists.
