The horror streaming platform “Shudder” has picked up the rights to the home invasion thriller “Push,” which is set to premiere at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California later this month. This film, directed by David Charbonier and Justin Powell, will have its exclusive release on AMC Networks’ specialized horror service towards the end of this year.
In the show “Push,” Alicia Sanz, known for her role in “El Cid” on Prime Video, and Raúl Castillo, recognized from “Smile 2” and “Army of the Dead,” are cast. A realtor and a murderer, respectively. An encounter during an open house sets off the pregnant real estate agent’s early labor, further escalating the tense survival aspect with an unexpected complication.
Sam Zimmerman, Shudder’s programming head, praised ‘Push’ as the latest work by David and Justin that masterfully builds intimate, heart-pounding tension. Following their collaboration on ‘Boy Behind the Door,’ we are excited to join forces with this talented team again for a chilling and unexpected take on the home invasion genre.
In a twist of fate, the abduction-themed movie “The Boy Behind the Door” represented the second film venture for its writing and directing team. Interestingly, its 2021 premiere coincided with the release of their earlier work, “The Djinn,” made in 2018. “The Djinn” centers around a speechless child tormented by a supernatural being. This film was distributed by IFC Midnight, whereas “The Boy Behind the Door” premiered exclusively on Shudder. Currently, both movies can be streamed on this platform.
Last October saw the debut of the movie titled “Push” at the Sitges Film Festival. This production was overseen by Ryan Scaringe. The executive producers for this film include Amy Lippens, Jilbert Daniel, Del Charbonier, Sanz, and Castillo.
