Shroud slams “rigged” Game Awards after Arc Raiders snubbed for GOTY nominee

Twitch star shroud continues to insist The Game Awards are unfair, especially after Arc Raiders wasn’t nominated for Game of the Year, even though he actively promoted it for consideration.

Michael ‘shroud’ Grzesiek, a popular streamer on Twitch known for playing first-person shooter games, strongly encouraged his viewers to vote for Arc Raiders as Game of the Year back in November. He wanted the game, developed by Embark Studios, to win the award.

When the Polish-Canadian streamer made his request, reactions were mixed. Another streamer, Asmongold, publicly criticized the game he wanted, saying Arc Raiders wasn’t nearly as good as the highly-regarded Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Shroud has repeatedly criticized The Game Awards, previously claiming the 2024 show was unfair when Black Myth: Wukong didn’t win. He continued this pattern, calling the 2025 event a sham.

Shroud reacts to Arc Raiders not getting nominated for GOTY

Shroud was streaming live when the Game of the Year nominees were revealed, and he seemed frustrated with some of the game choices.

Shroud jokingly criticized the nominations for Death Stranding 2 and Donkey Kong Bananza, suggesting Nintendo’s financial influence and Geoff Keighley’s close ties to Hideo Kojima played a role.

When Arc Raiders wasn’t released, the 31-year-old was frustrated and claimed that people weren’t prepared for artificial intelligence in video games.

Honestly, I was surprised they even nominated it, even though it didn’t win. I really didn’t think it would get recognized at all – it felt like they were scared of getting flak for it, you know?

However, shroud still made his disappointment known, adding that it was “yet another rigged year.”

We’re confident Expedition will be a major winner, taking home prizes in around twelve different categories. We fully expect them to win big.

Amazingly, probably the last game you’d expect managed to earn shroud’s vote.

Let’s say Donkey Kong won this award. It would be a disaster – the whole show would lose all credibility. No one would take it seriously, and people wouldn’t be interested in whatever event it was for. It’s so unbelievable that I’m even asking, but where would I even vote for Donkey Kong?

The Game Awards will be live streamed on December 11, 2025. Despite calling the awards a joke, streamer shroud has pledged to play any game that wins the Game of the Year award.
