Switzerland’s first government-owned bank, PostFinance, introduces crypto staking services. This new feature offers incentives in the form of Ethereum rewards, with plans to extend support to additional cryptocurrencies in the future.
Swiss state-owned bank PostFinance recently unveiled a fresh crypto service for its clients, effective as of January 16, 2025. The bank is now offering crypto staking, which is an expansion of their existing crypto trading and custody options. This innovative service allows customers to generate passive income by holding onto their digital currencies.
Staking refers to the process where customers keep their digital currency assets safe and support the functioning of a blockchain network. As compensation, they receive periodic benefits. Currently, PostFinance is staking Ethereum (ETH), but they aim to broaden their cryptocurrency options in the future. This move follows the launch of PostFinance’s crypto trading and custody service, which was introduced in February 2024. The establishment of this service resulted from a partnership with Sygnum, a regulated digital asset bank.
With this move, PostFinance becomes the first major Swiss bank to introduce crypto staking, thereby increasing the crypto market’s influential players. Users can now access this new staking service through the PostFinance app and e-finance channel. The minimum deposit required is as low as 0.1 ETH, making it accessible for most users to participate in the system.
PostFinance Enhances Crypto Staking with Native Ethereum Integration
One significant advantage of the staking service offered by PostFinance is its enhanced security features. Instead of performing staking off-chain, PostFinance performs native staking directly on the Ethereum blockchain, ensuring transparency and safety for users. Dr. Alexander Thoma, Head of Digital Assets at PostFinance, mentioned that users can easily monitor their staking rewards as these will be displayed alongside other crypto assets on their statements. This seamless integration simplifies the process of tracking rewards for customers.
This is a straightforward and safe staking platform, enabling crypto investors to generate passive earnings without having to oversee intricate procedures. In the future, PostFinance aims to expand the range of cryptocurrencies available for this staking service, giving users more options to choose from.
Personally, I’m thrilled about the latest crypto staking service launched by PostFinance. This move signifies a significant stride for the bank, demonstrating their growing interest in merging traditional banking with digital assets. As this service expands, it seems PostFinance is aiming to provide more opportunities for customers like me to tap into the potential of the dynamic crypto market.
