Shocking Malcolm in the Middle Reunion: One Beloved Cast Member Absent!

After nearly twenty years since it last aired, Malcolm in the Middle is coming back with new episodes, but unfortunately, one original cast member won’t be joining this time around.

2006 marked the end of Season 7 for Malcolm in the Middle, leaving many viewers under the impression that this was the last we’d see of the series. Over a span of six years, we had witnessed 151 episodes, chronicling the lives of the Wilkerson family.

For quite some time, there’s been a lot of talk about possibly getting back together, and the cast has crossed paths on various instances, yet no concrete plans materialized. However, things took a turn in December 2024 when Disney+ commissioned a fresh set of episodes, making it official.

As a diehard fan, I can’t contain my excitement as the original crew is flocking to Vancouver for a four-episode reunion! It’s going to be a blast catching up with these characters after all these years. Almost the whole gang will be reunited on screen, but it seems one original cast member won’t be making a comeback this time around.

Malcolm in the Middle reunion recasting Dewey

In contrast to reports by Variety, Erik Per Sullivan, best known for playing Dewey in an earlier series, will not be returning to the upcoming reunion. At present, he is generally avoiding his past child-acting roles and has become largely inactive on the internet since his days of widespread recognition.

For the past fifteen years, you won’t find Sullivan in front of a camera, with his most recent appearance being the 2010 film ‘Twelve’. Interestingly, he’s also not present at many cast gatherings that have taken place throughout these years.

It appears that Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is set to take on the role previously held by Dewey, as the classic character makes a comeback after a long absence.

As a die-hard Malcolm in the Middle fan, I’m thrilled to hop back into the world of the hilarious, dysfunctional Malcolm family! The Dewey shuffle didn’t shake things up too much, because the original gang is coming back for four fresh episodes. Frankie Muniz will be reprising his role as Malcolm, while the legendary Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek are all set to slip into their characters Hal and Lois again. Not to be outdone, Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are ready to bring Francis and Reese back to life! Can’t wait to see what chaos they’ll cook up!

Reuniting with the original team, a span of 19 years has seen an expansion in the family. Malcolm now has another sibling, along with his spouse and their little girl. The family is once again united, as Hal and Lois commemorate their 40th wedding anniversary.

The reunion will start shooting very soon, as Muniz hints to fans that he’s eagerly anticipating reuniting with his former group.
