Sheinelle Jones Is Jenna Bush Hager’s New Today Co-host

NBC has chosen Sheinelle Jones as the new co-host of the fourth hour of its morning show, joining Jenna Bush Hager. Starting next year, the show will be renamed Today With Jenna & Sheinelle. Jones is already a familiar face on Today, having worked on the third hour since 2019 and the weekend edition from 2014-2019. When she moves to the fourth hour, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer will continue to host the 9 a.m. segment. Jones will make history as the first Black co-host of the fourth hour, following Ann Curry, Natalie Morales, Kathie Lee Gifford, and Hoda Kotb in the role.

On the December 9th episode of Today, Hager happily announced she’s found someone special and will be starting a new chapter in January. She described the person as a well-known and talented broadcaster, but emphasized that what truly matters is how well they embody the spirit of the show.

Sheinelle Jones became emotional during a conversation, recalling a difficult time a year prior when her husband, Uche Ojeh, passed away after an illness. After taking some time off, she returned to work in September, describing the experience as wonderful. She felt Uche was watching over her, encouraging her success, as he always had been a competitive and supportive person.

After Kotb left the show in January after 17 years, it temporarily featured a series of guest hosts under the name Jenna & Friends. The first week of guests with Hager included Taraji P. Henson, Eva Longoria, Keke Palmer, and Michelle Buteau. Since then, more than 40 different people have joined Hager as co-hosts. Jones first appeared on the show as a guest in September, playfully hoping Hager would invite her back – a promise Hager happily made.
