As a seasoned movie-goer and observer of life, I find myself resonating deeply with Sharon Stone‘s sentiments, especially after following her illustrious career that spans decades. Her poignant remarks at the Torino Film Festival echo a shared concern we all have about the state of our world, particularly in the United States.
Sharon Stone expressed her intention to possibly purchase a home in Italy and relocate from the U.S., should Donald Trump be re-elected as president, back in July. Although it remains uncertain whether Stone will actually depart from the U.S. following Trump’s recent reelection, she recently attended the Torino Film Festival (as reported by USA Today) and criticized Americans for their “ignorant” and “arrogant” behavior regarding the election results.
Stone implied that it’s crucial to ponder over who we elect for our government, questioning whether we truly are selecting our leaders or if they are self-selecting. In a seeming allusion to Trump, he cautioned about the potential dangers of such a situation, recalling Italy’s history with fascism and urging awareness of the consequences.
Stone shared with the festival crowd that “my nation is currently experiencing its teenage years. Teenagers can be overconfident. They believe they know all the answers. They can also be naive and unaware, yet overconfident. And that’s exactly where we are – in our phase of being overconfident, yet ignorant and arrogant.
Stone stated, “Those Americans who haven’t traveled and lack a passport (making up about 80% of the population), often exhibit a remarkable lack of worldly knowledge. My suggestion? The key to addressing these matters lies in mutual assistance.
This year, Stone was at the Torino Film Festival to accept a lifetime achievement award. Prior to this event, Alec Baldwin had already made an appearance, introducing a screening of his 1990 film “The Hunt for Red October”. During interactions with the press, Baldwin expressed his view that many Americans are poorly informed about current events, stating, “Americans are not well-informed about what’s actually happening.
Regarding global issues such as climate change, conflicts in countries like Ukraine or Israel – people all around the world are interested in learning a modest amount about these significant subjects, and this certainly includes Americans,” he further explained.
In July, Stone mentioned to The Daily Mail that she was contemplating purchasing a home in Italy if Trump won the election. She expressed this interest because “this is one of the rare instances in my life where I’ve genuinely seen someone campaigning on a policy of hatred and repression.
