Notable Indian actors such as Shah Rukh Khan, Ted Sarandos, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Rajinikanth will lead the way at the debut WAVES (World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit) in 2025, as India strives to become a central hub for worldwide storytelling and screen technology advancements.

Leveraging the Power of Cultural & Digital Collaborations Between U.K. and India.

Sarandos is set to join a discussion called “Fireside Chat: Streaming the Modern India – Culture, Networks, and Creative Resources.

Shah Rukh Khan is set to appear at a talk titled “From Outsider to King: The Journey,” which will be led by the versatile Karan Johar as the moderator.

The panel discussion at the summit titled “Legends & Legacies: The Tales That Molded India’s Spirit” will gather legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Hema Malini, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, and Mithun Chakraborty – a unique gathering of iconic figures from different eras – under the guidance of Akshay Kumar as the moderator.

Aamir Khan, one of the most prominent speakers at the summit, participates in various sessions. In “Studios of the Future: Positioning India on the Global Studio Map,” he collaborates with Ritesh Sidhwani, Dinesh Vijan, and Namit Malhotra to explore infrastructure and India’s preparedness for large-scale global productions. Additionally, Khan conducts a solo masterclass titled “Redefining Indian Cinema.” He also participates in the culturally oriented discussion “Indian Cinema, Eastern Perspective,” alongside Peter Ho Sun Chan, Stanley Tong, and Prasad Shetty.

The topics covered at the event range widely – from “The New Mainstream: Shattering Barriers, Crafting Icons,” where S.S. Rajamouli, A.R. Rahman, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal will participate, moderated by Johar, to “Cinema Across India: Myth or Movement?” which brings together Anupam Kher, Abhishek Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Karthi, and Khushbu.

A discussion with the title “The Future of Entertainment: Over-the-top platforms driving creative storytelling, technological advancements, and enhanced viewer engagement” will include Gaurav Gandhi and Nikhil Madhok from Amazon Prime Video, along with directors Nikkhil Advani, Vikramaditya Motwane, and Sudip Sharma. Meanwhile, a panel titled “Stories that resonate globally” will feature Kelly Day from Amazon Prime Video, Justin Warbrooke from Disney, and Kaitlin Yarnall from National Geographic.

I’m thrilled to be part of an event that features headline sessions complemented by my own masterclasses, investor pitch platforms, engaging panels on gaming, animation, and artificial intelligence, and a special Women in Media Showcase. It’s shaping up to be quite a spectacle!

At a joint event in London on Wednesday, hosted by the U.K.’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and the Indian Embassy as a prelude to WAVES, Nandy stated: “In film, fashion, literature, music, and the arts, Britain and India stand at the forefront globally, and our combined strength is impressive. It’s only fitting that when I visit India next week, we will be working towards strengthening a more profound cultural alliance, one that could illuminate the world.

We find ourselves in a new phase globally, and there’s a palpable unease about what this transition entails. As we sail through turbulent waters, the unknown looms large, and change is constant. Yet, the bond we share remains crucial now more than ever – a bond that may adapt but will never break.” Nandy emphasized.

Vikram K. Doraiswami, India’s High Commissioner to the U.K., stated: “Throughout our lengthy, intricate yet extremely rewarding shared history as peoples and cultures, there has been a consistent thread – the interlacing of our relationship in culture and creative arts.

WAVES 2025 takes place May 1–4 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.
