BOLLYWOOD BRONZE
Following a five-year planning phase, iconic Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will ultimately be immortalized in bronze this coming spring. Their timeless film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (DDLJ) is set to make history as the first Indian movie to be celebrated at London’s “Scenes in the Square” outdoor cinema event.
A statue representing two famous actors from Yash Raj Films’ 1995 romantic comedy, known for its captivating scenes across Europe and India, will kick off the 30th anniversary festivities. This tribute will be placed on the eastern balcony outside the Odeon cinema, an ideal spot since the movie’s Leicester Square backdrop is crucial to the story, particularly when the characters meet for the first time.
Mark Williams, deputy CEO of Heart of London Business Alliance, expressed great joy about joining forces with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, giants in the world of cinema. He stated that the statue is a perfect representation of Bollywood’s global fame and a wonderful way to honor London’s vibrant multiculturalism.”
Or simply:
“Mark Williams praised having Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol on board, two cinematic giants. He considered the statue as an appropriate homage to Bollywood’s global popularity and a joyous celebration of London’s diverse culture.
Akshaye Widhani, head of Yash Raj Films, expressed delight: “We’re proud to be the first Indian movie appearing in ‘Scenes in the Square.’ This is also a significant milestone, marking the 30th anniversary of ‘DDLJ,’ a film that has shared love and happiness worldwide, demonstrating its profound cultural influence in the U.K.
The musical version of the movie “Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical” will make its debut at the Manchester Opera House on May 29th.
