Is Commander James Bond and Detective Benoit Blanc affirmed? Yes, indeed. However, Sgt. Rock is a no-go. It appears that Daniel Craig has withdrawn from Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt. Rock, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. This project, a collaboration between DC Studios, would have reunited Craig and Guadagnino following their work on Queer, and also marked the third collaboration for Guadagnino and screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes of Challengers/Queer.
Speculation about Luca Guadagnino directing a superhero movie for Warner Bros. began in September, with no specific hero confirmed yet. Sgt. Rock is an iconic World War II character who was initially created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert in 1959. Unlike most superheroes, he doesn’t possess traditional superpowers; instead, his “Combat Antenna” gives him a heightened sense of danger, similar to Spider-Man’s spidey-sense. He’s been mentioned in a XTC song and has made appearances in the DCAU, but big screen adaptations have struggled for years. Previously, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis were linked to play Sgt. Rock as an NCO. Could Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt. Rock also face development troubles? Only time will tell.
