Olivia Wilde is set to helm “The Invite,” a captivating romantic comedy for a night out, inspired by the Spanish movie “Sentimental.” She’s managed to gather an impressive ensemble of actors for the project, including Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, Edward Norton, and herself.
Originally directed by Cesc Gay, the movie “The Invite” is a production that Rashida Jones and Will McCormack have adapted. As per the official summary, this film centers around a pair of individuals who extend an invitation to their neighbors, leading to an evening filled with unforeseen twists and turns, unveiling suppressed feelings and hidden sexuality. Filming for this production has commenced in Los Angeles.
The movie is created by Ben Browning from FilmNation Entertainment, Megan Ellison at Annapurna Pictures, and David Permut. Patrick Chu, the Head of Film and Television at Annapurna, is serving as an executive producer. Both FilmNation Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures are contributing financially to the production.

Recently, Wilde has been at the helm for “Don’t Worry Darling,” a hit thriller that saw success in cinemas last year (2022). This was her first directorial venture, following the lauded comedy “Booksmart.” As an actress, she has graced the screen in films like “Her,” “Rush,” and “Cowboys & Aliens.” Upcoming, she will appear in Gregg Araki’s comedy “I Want Your Sex” alongside Cooper Hoffman and Charli XCX. Additionally, Wilde is set to direct two upcoming projects: a Christmas comedy for Universal Pictures titled “Naughty,” and a film adaptation of the ’90s comic book character “Avengelyne” for Warner Bros., both productions being overseen by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap.
Recently, Rogen premiered “The Studio,” a satirical take on Hollywood that he both created and stars in, on Apple TV+. Among his many other works are “Knocked Up,” “Superbad,” “Pineapple Express,” and the upcoming film “The Fabelmans.” More recently, Wilde was featured alongside Rogen on “The Studio,” portraying an exaggerated version of herself.
Penélope Cruz, who has won an Oscar, is known for her roles in films such as “Nine,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” and “Parallel Mothers.” She can currently be seen in Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” and will soon make an appearance in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!
After receiving an Oscar nomination for his role in “A Complete Unknown,” Norton is now stepping into new projects. Some of the films that have previously garnered him Academy Award nods are “Birdman,” “Primal Fear,” and “American History X.
FilmNation Entertainment shares the domestic distribution rights with UTA Independent Film Group, while managing global distribution outside of the United States.
