Sesame Street Moves to New Streaming Home After HBO Max Exit, Will Be ‘Reimagined’

It appears that Big Bird and his friends might have bid farewell to their home at HBO Max. However, Netflix is stepping up to provide a fresh start. After the announcement of Sesame Street departing from HBO Max, it’s now confirmed that the show will relocate to Netflix, where a new season is currently being developed.

On Monday, an announcement was made via a social media video, featuring Cookie Monster encountering what he thought was a cookie (represented by the red N from the Netflix logo). The streaming service also confirmed that they will be adding past seasons of the show to their platform later this year, along with brand new episodes of the educational children’s series.

As the show enters its 56th season on Netflix, they’ve referred to it as a fresh, reimagined take. You can expect some format changes, but don’t worry, classic segments like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck will still be around. Netflix hints that we’ll find new ways to engage with Cookie Monster as he opens his own Cookie Cart on Sesame Street, and discover the magical inhabitants of Abby’s Fairy Garden. The episodes will now focus on a single 11-minute story, offering more opportunities for character-driven humor and heart.
